Mental health does not discriminate

There is still plenty of research being published about the effects of the pandemic on society as a whole. Another study came out this week, looking at the impact on the mental health of our children.  It found what many of us know already……it really doesn’t matter how much money you earn or how big your garden is, anyone can be affected.  This research concluded that traditionally advantaged groups of children had the biggest drop in mental health during the pandemic, compared to those from disadvantaged backgrounds.  You can read more about the findings HERE.

Researchers speculated that increased social isolation and a reduction in services may have been contributing factors.  It’s not a surprise but how do we reverse the effects?  Talking is a great start and...

There is no such thing as a silly question

It was our first ‘Ask Away’ session after the summer break.  We never know what’s going to come up and it’s always great to see our resident Clinical Psychologist, Dr Sarah-Jane Knight, prove her weight in gold.

She offers such sound, sensible and relatable advice.

“We want to love and nuture our children but we also have to teach them to cope with the difficult parts of life”

Sarah-Jane spoke a lot about resilience. Infact, it featured in a number of her answers this week.  We would all like to raise resilient and independent young people but as we know, it’s not always straight forward.

As we’ve come to expect, Sarah-Jane has some wonderful tips on how to encourage resilience.  I would recommend watching her webinar and you can do that by clicking HERE.

And you can also find out more about the wonderful Sarah Jane through her website Commune Psychology.

Next week - Adopted Teens: Teen Development and Mental Health

Next week, join us for a conversation about adopted teens. Previous reports suggest that adopted children may be at a greater risk of psychological and behavioural difficulties as a result of their early childhood experiences.

Anya Sizer, who’s a councillor in London and The Speaker of Hackney, will be talking about her experience of adoption, the teen years, education and the links and impact of mental health on the family group. It promises to be a very interesting and supportive conversation.

To watch this and all of our expert sessions, you can subscribe for just £5 a month. 6 and 12 month memberships are also available at £30 and £50 respectively

A subscription not only gains entry into more than 30 LIVE webinars, but also access to our full on-demand library and you can find out how to subscribe HERE.
